Studio Session Video 2

This video features Mikie in the iso booth cutting vocals. He had a killer session! And the fat mic pre that Drew had on his voice took the cuts to the next level.

This past Friday the guys headed up to the facilities at Big Sky Audio to continue with the new recording. These next two posts will feature video of some of our time spent working on perfecting the tracks for the upcoming EP. This first clip is of us listening as our producer, Drew Raison, puts a quick mix on the parts Mikie just finished laying down. Enjoy!
Orlando covers Tool’s “Pushit”

This is one of my favorite songs to play along with. Danny Carey of Tool has been a huge influence on my playing since I started, so I thought it would be cool to put this up as an homage to Danny and Tool. Some other drummers I have gain a ton of influence from are Carter Beuford, Jose Pasillas, Tim Alexander, Mike Portnoy, Mike Borden, Stewart Copeland, Neil Pearte, and Jon Theodore just to name a few. I recorded this at Philly Sound Studios in South Philadelphia where we are in the process of recording the new album. Also be sure to come see ETR play at The World Cafe Live in Philadelphia on August 21st.
Greetings from Poland

Howdy!
My travels find me in Poland, where my wife and I are relaxing and spending time with her family. So far it has been a super trip. We started our venture through Iceland, flew into Warsaw, and now are settled in Walbrzych; a small city towards the southwest of Poland. It is inspiring to take in the deep history of Poland and realize the cultural contrasts to the America I am so accustomed to. I have attached a few pics from our journey so far. Take special notice of the one with Jonsi, most commonly known for his work in Sigur Ros. We got a chance to meet up with him in Iceland and spend some time talking music and his new solo album over a beer while waiting for our flight from Iceland to Warsaw. Good luck on the tour Jonsi!
I also wanted to mention how inspiring it is to think how back home, at this time, Orlando is starting to record his drums for the record. Even though I may be away my spirits will be with the guys as they lay down their parts. I know I’ll be 100% ready to go when we hit ground back in the states.
Na zdrowie!!!

Album update and recommended tracks

What’s up everybody!? The album is progressing nicely and moral is high getting ready to record. Over the weekend we were able to finish up pre-production for all tracks and make sure everything is ready to go. Drew and the crew are getting closer and closer to having the new studio completed in South Philly. Once they do, we’ll be there ready to test out the new digs. I know everyone is excited to lay their parts down. I can’t wait to get in there and get a chance to really get into my guitar parts and make them come alive. It will be a good summer indeed.
For this post, along with a band update, I thought it’d be cool to list some artist tracks I’ve been listening to lately. Some are from old favorites with new material and some are new acts that I’ve been turned on to. Go through the list and check em out. Enjoy!
- Kashmir: “Ophelia” from No Balance Palace.
- Deftones: “976-Evil” from Diamond Eyes.
- Mew: “Sometimes Life Isn’t Easy” from No More Stories…
- Katatonia: “Forsaker” from Dark is the New Day.
- Dave Brubeck: “Blue Rondo à la Turk” from Time Out.
Almost ready to record…

So we’ve been doing virtually nothing but writing and rewriting the songs for the new album. We’re basically finished and so we’ll be starting recording very soon. We’re shooting to have everything or at least something ready by the time of our WORLD CAFE show on August 21st. The band spent this past weekend in our practice studio working out all of the tracks that may or may not make the album. We figured out the proper tempos and then timed them all, too, in order to get a feel for how the album would sound and feel as a whole. The good news is that this album will definitely be an LP. The other good news is that we aren’t even sure which song to pick as a single yet – there are a bunch of great contenders. Here is our list. All titles aren’t final, but you get the idea:

In other news, Matt Orlando got himself a sparkly purple drum set made out of Bubinga wood. He swears its the best-sounding drum set we’ll ever hear. After hearing it this weekend, he was right…

Finally, our good friend Brian Feeley took some awesome pictures of us recently. We’ll be sharing those very soon. Stay tuned. Very good things are happening.
We are Alive and Schwell!

So we haven’t updated our blog in a while. Sorry bout that. That’ll change though, promise, as we are almost finished the writing process for our new album. What can we say but that the songs are pretty awesome. Recording will start soon. We all agree that this is album will raise the bar from Before We Grow Empty. The sound is somewhat similar but everything is a little bit richer. After we start recording, an album release party will be scheduled for Philly and then NYC. Then we tour Japan (we’re HUGE over there).
Oh and in case you haven’t heard, we added a fifth band member late last year. His name is Tony Yoo, and he’s playing keys, synth, and guitars.
We also played our first show in about four months this past Friday night in Philly. Thanks to all of our friends new and old who came out and heard a set comprised almost entirely of new material. Thanks to Dennis McKnight for taking some fotos for us to share.
That’s all for now. Talk to you again very soon.
