I was walking down the path behind my parents house that leads to the woods. As I reached the end I looked and saw a little boy standing on the branches of an old oak tree. He looked at me, with eyes that had no pupils, only the whitest white that I had ever seen. He asked me if I knew what it was like to live forever. To take whatever form you wish others to see you and do things you have always dreamed of doing. Saddened, I replied, No child, but how can you enjoy all the wonders of this life without the blessing of sight?. He smiled, and at that moment I felt him see more more completely than anyone has ever before. But I can see, he said, clearer than anyone else ever has, Let me show you.

The child floated from the branches to the ground in front of me. His small hands covered his face and the wind softly sang a strange lullaby. His head lifted as he held out his hands. The eyes, the whitest eyes I have ever seen were now mine to be had. Here, he said, These will show you what I mean. Hesitantly, I received the gift and accepted his offer. My hands assembled my new eyes and my body burned as I slipped into the great cold distance. The darkness surrounded me unfairly and much too quickly.

Little boy! I cried, I do not want these eyes anymore, I do not like them and wish to see as I did before! But there was only silence. Please child! I want to see the world again, Take away this blank black canvas that is now mine. But again nothing. I was left alone. Blinded by ambition and selfish curiosity. Now I became the indifferent little boy, alone with the whitest white eyes that saw only the emptiest, blackest black that I have ever known.

I had a dream once that I was The Predator, you know, from the movies? I didn’t hurt anyone or anything, I just ran around the jungle for a while. It was amazing.

Blinded by selfish curiosity…hmmm, that’s scary…but true. There is always a consequence for every choice you make. However, life is about learning from these events and not regretting the choices you made.
